AFRICA'S TRAGEDY IN A NUTSHELL

Only one word can fully capture Africa's tragedy: impunity. The powerful daily commit crimes, even crimes against humanity, and get away with it. For years, I have called them “career criminals behind presidential desks”. For half a century, Africa has been ruled by these dictators and tyrants I have often referred to as “little devils coated in human skins”. Hard to stop coining new terms to fit this specie that continues to reproduce itself and enslave millions of human beings: looters-in-chief, Mafiosi-in-chief, assassins-in-chief, terminators-in-chief…

Africans deserve a bright future, not the current and very primitive form of political, economic, and social system.  Call it capitalism 1.0 and you will be wrong, 100% of the time. This is capitalism version 0.0001 where the greed and the crimes of the powerful are rewarded, a place where criminals, with their animalistic behaviors, have found ways to hijack the entire continent, a place where the rule of law has been replaced by the rule of crime with the entire world watching and often playing a key role in that tragedy.

EXTREMISM, ARROGANCE, IGNORANCE: A DEADLY TRIPARTITE NEXUS

Extremism, be it political or religious, is on the rise throughout the world. It looks like humanity has just awaken to a new reality, very familiar to Africans since some little devils coated in human skin (aka African despots, career criminals behind presidential desks) embarked in the criminal enterprise of seizing power and colluding with international organized crime to plunder the wealth of their nations, killing hundreds, thousands, and even millions and transforming an entire continent into a land of desolation, a place where  animals in the wild seem to enjoy more freedoms than  human beings. Some would claim African reality is the extreme of extremism. Error: there is no moderate extremism, no liberal extremism, no conservative extremism, no benevolent extremism. The surge of extremism in its different shades is also a concern in today’s Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and the Americas.

Extremism does not walk alone. Its travelling companions are arrogance and ignorance. The million-dollar prize: show me an extremist who is not arrogant and you will receive the prize. Nowhere is there to find a humble extremist, for extremism is a twin brother of arrogance and humility is the antidote to both arrogance and extremism.

Extremists believe they understand how the world works and what makes it work. The reality: their knowledge of the world is that of a babe being delivered from its mother’s womb. We can attach different names to this specie and it would not matter at all. We may call them bloodthirsty religious fanatics, dictators, dictocrats, little devils in human shape, little devils coated in human skin, career criminals behind presidential desks (by the way I am the one who have coined the last three to refer to our very own African tyrants). Make no mistake: they’re all ignorant regardless of their skin color. They’re all a bunch of “under-mensch”, for they lack the honor and integrity that makes humans human. Marine Le Pen, Geert Wilders, Julian Assange, the leading Brexiters, and terrorists are just the tip of extremism, the most visible and primitive form of the extremism iceberg coated with a thick coat of ignorance.

For years, I have denounced extremism in Africa. That political ideology forced me into exile for decades and there is no reason for me to keep silent witnessing the surge of this predator across the world. Native species are often caught off-guard when a new predator invades the land. They cannot recognize it and sometimes even try to play with the fire. Ask the French after Le Pen’s loss and they will say: “on l’a echappé belle” (we almost escaped the catastrophe!). The world needs a warning and there are a lot of red flags out there, already raised to prevent history from repeating itself.

STATEMENT ON THE FRENCH PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION & EXTREMISM

I also endorse Emmanuel Macron for President of France and congratulate him, beforehand, for his big big victory this Sunday. Throughout my extensive international experience, I have personally witnessed how extremist ideologies have ruined the lives of billions around the world. Look at the plethora of African tyrannies to understand what Europe can become if its leaders and people embrace this very extremist path. Look at Russia, China, and much of the world. Extremism goes hand in hand with fear and a fearful people is not a free people.

For Europe's democracies and the tons of pseudo-democracies of the world, the most serious threat is the lack of effective check-and-balance mechanisms to tame and even neutralize extremist tendencies. Caught off guard by political extremism, I wonder how those countries would survive in the long or short term if they continue to jump onto the extremism bandwagon and cheap populism. En marche, citoyens!!! Félicitations anticipées à Emmanuel Macron pour la grande victoire de ce dimanche!!!

HOMMAGE A ETIENNE TSHISEKEDI

STATEMENT ON TRANSITION IN THE DRC (12/25/2016)

I strongly condemn the crimes against humanity and other large-scale violations of human rights committed before, on, and after the expiry of former President Joseph Kabila's last term in office, which ended on December 19, 2016 at midnight.

It is an insult to humankind and decency any overt or covert intent to reward human rights violators and their political allies with roles during the long-awaited transition to democracy. Three generations of imbeciles governing the Congo since 1960 is more than enough.

Kabila's regime and its backers from transnational organized crime belong now to Congo's shameful past. Another tyranny has come to an end, sadly, in the Heart of Darkness! It has left behind scores of deaths, empty coffers, and a multitude of domestic and transnational criminals waiting for their chance to feed on the Congo again. It is a moral obligation to intervene and stop another stupidity or madness from taking place in the DRC. Three generations of imbeciles at the helm of the DRC is enough!

DECLARATION SUR LA TRANSITION EN RDC (24/12/2016)

Chers Compatriotes,

Bon courage, compatriotes !
